7. What is the story of the film The Queen?

In the wake of a national tragedy, the prime minister and royal family find themselves quietly at odds. The initial reluctance of Buckingham Palace to mourn Diana is seen by the public as a sign of cool emotional distance, but Tony Blair, perceiving a potential public-relations disaster in the making, takes it upon himself to persuade Queen Elizabeth II to pay tribute to the dead princess

8. The Queen Film Review

I would recommend watching this movie. I think it fair to say that it had a specific story to tell and objective in mind. The unfolding is not about the tragedy of the death of Princess Diana of Wales but of the inner conflict of Queen Elizabeth ll over the death. She indeed struggled in how or even if she should lead the world in mourning for Diana, private versus public. Each main character represented a faction of opinions in response to the tragedy, and added to the process of the Queen’s eventual decision to show her respect publicly.

I believe one of the pivotal moments was when Allistair and Tony Blair come to blows. The character of the Prime Minster chazens him saying “when you get it wrong you really get it wrong.” It was at that moment that Mr. Blair could see what the Queen was experiencing – in conflict between the ways of the Monarch as she knew it and what transformation she must take to enter into a new way of thinking and presenting herself in front of her people.

Some may say her TV memorial speech was not her true reflection and some may say it was how she truly felt through her realization process over the very few days before the funeral. I think, only the Stag knows for sure.

I loved the closing scene of the two, the Queen and Tony Blair walking among the fountain and gardens with the dogs, talking what is next best for the country. 💖 Love to England and long live the Queen.
